Emergency contraception

If your query relates to emergency contraception, you should be aware that emergency contraceptive pills need to be taken within 72 hours (three days) of having unprotected sex, or an intrauterine device (IUD or "coil") needs to be fitted within five days of having unprotected sex.

Brook Centres are able to provide free emergency contraception to young people under 25, including under 16s. Women of all ages, including under 16s, can get free emergency contraception from family planning clinics, GPs, and NHS walk-in centres. In addition, emergency contraceptive pills are sold in chemists to women aged 16 and over at a normal cost of £25.
